Making a Difference with Participate Australia
When the board sits down to discuss where to spend our sponsorship funds each year, Canada Bay Club is always ready and willing to support a cause that provides genuine assistance to our youth. The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow and no child should be at a disadvantage when it comes to making a difference.
That’s why we proudly contribute to funding for Participate Australia, which is a Sydney-based Inner West provider of disability services, providing education, training and employment opportunities to empower greater independence in people with disabilities. This essential funding enables those with intellectual limitations to do the everyday activities most of us take for granted, such as financial literacy, cooking, swimming, water and road safety, IT skills and interpersonal relationships.
As part of its fundraising in 2017, Participate Australia held an art exhibition, For Art’s Sake, towards which Canada Bay Club was proud to contribute sponsorship support. The exhibition aimed to showcase up-and-coming artists of all abilities, sell original works, raise awareness and bank some much needed dollars so Participate Australia can continue to develop the life skills of people with intellectual disabilities.
For Art’s Sake celebrated emerging artists and showcased original works from mainstream creative artists, as well as collaborations between artists and people with disabilities. This inspirational exhibition was an amazing example of artists, students, donors and sponsors alike, coming together for a wonderful cause.
Renowned artists such as Ken Done, Reg Mombassa and Jody Broun generously donated works of their own to be auctioned on the night. There were also art prizes up for grabs, as well as the opportunity for the wider community to learn about the incredible work Participate Australia does and pick up a fabulous piece of art in the process.
Beyond its fundraising efforts, Participate Australia also offers After School and School Holiday Programs for youth with intellectual disabilities to have a place to get involved and learn about life. Day Programs are also available for adults, including group activities with a focus on personal development and social involvement.
Canada Bay Club is extremely proud to partner with Participate Australia and to make a difference in the lives of those living with an intellectual disability.
